Awesome Sugar Cookies

on August 27, 2011

Here is another shower recipe that we used last weekend.  I am actually not that big of a fan of sugar cookies, unless you are talking about the cookies that you get at Walmart that has the yummy frosting and sprinkles. LOVE those!!  I just think that normally when people make sugar cookies, they don’t have that much flavor and they get overbaked so easily.  But S and I decided that we really wanted to have some so that we could decorate them (plus we got some cutie little bottle and baby carriage cookie cutters!), so it was my job to find a good recipe that we could make work!

I recently started reading Annie’s Eats and came across this recipe in her archives.  It looked super easy and she said that they stored well and were easy to work with.  Sounds good to me!  It also says that they don’t ‘brown’, which is one of the things I was looking for.  I wanted a plain cookie so that all the attention would be on the frosting.  So go on to her website and check out this recipe and all of her others.  She does such a great job of finding recipes and giving an honest opinion about them.

The recipe came together super fast and was very easy to work with.  I actually made the dough two days before the shower and baked them up the night before the shower, then decorated them the day of.  I would have done the decorating the night before also, but there was a missing Crisco incident.  (Don’t worry, I found it in the office under the desk…yeah, I know.  I’ve got mad organization skillz lol)  I didn’t have to use too much flour and I could make them as thin or thick as I wanted.  It was a little tough to figure out if the cookies were done, since they don’t brown, but I just waited until the top and bottoms looked cooked, then took them out.  After they cooled, I just stacked them in a tupperware and put the lid on them, then they were ready for me to decorate.

I mixed up a batch of regular buttercreme and tinted some green, blue and a little bit of pink for the top of the bottles.  I’ll share that recipe soon hopefully.  It’s a super easy recipe and pipes easily.  Then we just decorated!  I put each of the colors in a ziploc bag and cut a small hole in the corner. I tried to do all different kinds of designs on the bottles and my sister, B, did the baby carriages.  Everyone loved them and I ate the leftovers all week and they were still good 4 days later.  Now that’s a good cookie!!
